DATA WING is an inquisitive game in so many ways. It’s a modest top down racing game. That right away makes you think ‘yeah, we’ve had a lot of those’, correct? This isn’t like other racing games although. It’s so much more than that.

It has a story (yes, actually), and it’s completely free to play. I don’t indicate free as in ad-supported either. This feels like an entirely humane act on the behalf of the developer.

Returning to the establishment because this is a racing game that in fact has a beginning, DATA WING has you trade with a inquisitive AI called Mother, while you’re racing inside a computer.

Mother isn’t overly welcoming, and you have to go after her orders no matter what. At least until she goes a bit illogical, that is, and the plot thickens a astonishing amount for something so simple. Think of the voiceover in the Portal series and you’re not far incorrect here. It’s strange but it works.

Of course, as this is a racing game, you could just pay no attention to the story and still take pleasure in what’s going on, but that wouldn’t be the point. It’s fun emotion like you’re doing more than just pouring around a circuit. There’s a motive for doing it.

As well as the support to be fast too, of course. Some of the objectives are quite firmly timed meaning you’re going to have to do again yourself once in a while to master things.

None of this would stuff if DATA WING’s controls let the side down, but they’re pretty unyielding here. Just touch the left side of the screen to turn left, and the right side of the screen to revolve right. Hold both sides to brake pedal. It’s almost as easy as that.

The only catch here is that your triangular vehicle likes to jump around, type of like in Asteroids and all those 80s gravity based games. It takes a small time to get used to, and then it clicks and it’s magnificent.

Drifting is the key to much of your accomplishment here. Even better, if you snip the edges of the track just right, you add a small speed enhancement. It’s a straightforward mechanic but one that works radiantly at making you feel like you’re doing something very chilly.

Every step of the way, you’ll feel pretty extraordinary. DATA WING doesn’t bother with any extras like power-ups or an upgrade organization. It’s a magnificently fashionable and pure experience.

That supplementary concerns to DATA WING’s lack of in-app purchases or adverts. There’s nothing here to attract you into spending money. That almost feels illegal given how well made it is.

With over 40 levels accessible, there’s a fair quantity to do. At its simplest, it won’t take you that long to absolute but many of the tracks have supplementary objectives for you to work towards. Even if it’s just a matter of carrying out a race faster than before.

Much requires to be said about DATA WING’s soundtrack too. It’s as stylish as everything else about the game. Adding atmosphere and sulkiness to the entire matter, it’s a huge move to further clasp you in.

It’s an curious thing but DATA WING hardly ever puts a foot wrong. It’s pleasing to play through, offers an interesting storyline that’ll leave you wondering, and it doesn’t overpower you with options. Throw in the fact that it’s completely free, there’s merely no reason why you wouldn’t be downloading it right this second. It’s fairly the enjoyment.
