In 1990, Reverend James LeBar oversaw the exorcism of a Florida teenager named Gina, which was later televised by ABC in 1991. Sanctioned by the Vatican, this ritual was meant to expel supposed demons from Gina, who was restrained and screamed uncontrollably. The scene was described by Newsweek as nothing more than the torment of a deeply disturbed girl. Ultimately, it was psychiatric medication that brought Gina peace, not the exorcism.
