1906: Clara Germana Cele

In this terrifying exorcism story, 16-year-old Clara Germana Cele from South Africa allegedly made a pact with the devil. She began acting erratically, tearing at her clothes, speaking in tongues, and demonstrating unnatural strength. Two priests performed exorcisms in 1906 and 1907, during which her skin burned upon contact with holy water and she levitated in front of witnesses. The priests eventually declared her free from possession.
