In the late 1950s, Dairy Queen owner Omar Knedlik’s soda machine broke, so he put some soda bottles in the freezer to cool them. The result? A partially frozen slushy beverage that customers loved. Knedlik later created a machine that could replicate the process, giving birth to the popular frozen drink we now know as Slurpees, sold in stores like 7-Eleven.
