Culture, efficiency and creativity lie in the management and leadership strategies exhibited in organizations in today's competitive global business world. When the organizational context of businesses changes and managers work through new problems and concerns, the role of leadership styles is crucial. Here in this blog, I take a closer look at several important leadership paradigms that may specifically be pertinent to today’s business world, how they look and their advantages.

1. Transformational Leadership

Transformational leadership is well known for the brilliant results it achieves by mobilizing people to reach for the stars. This style carried out by leaders mobilizes vision, creativity and adherence to values. They delegate to the employees, give them freedom; hence, they make the workers have a personal stake in the process. It has been established that transformational leaders perform exceptionally well in ambiance that calls for Organizational responses to change and improvement. This way, by emphasizing the ideas of shared vision and speaking up and solving problems as they surface, it creates a culture of employee involvement and exceptional performance.

2. Servant Leadership

Servant leadership is different from the normal pyramid models of organizations as it aims at providing service to the employees as well as other stakeholders. This style puts a very strong emphasis on understanding others, especially oneself and a high degree of ethical standards. Servant leaders focus on the professional growth of the subordinates and seek to help them become the best versions of themselves. In this respect, through creating a psychologically safe culture, servant leaders create trust and commitment from the followers, which is helpful in the achievement of long-term organizational goals.

3. Democratic Leadership

Democratic leadership entails decisions that have to be made with the participation of the people affected by such decisions. They engage people in decision-making processes of the organization and prefer making collective decisions that allow employees to feel a sense of responsibility. This approach is favorable in creating transparency, especially on how the organization is being managed. Democratic leaders foster free and non-restricted communication within the teams, which leads to effective integration of ideas on the projects. Namely, in that situation, democratic leadership can increase organizational creativity and enhance workers’ mold by valuing variability.

4. Transactional Leadership

Transactional leadership is based on a reward-penalty system which is brought about by the performance of the followers. Managers applying this approach set expectations and direction to the subordinates and provide incentives in regard to accomplishment of organizational goals; they also employ disciplinary measures if needed. Transactional leaders get effective when there is a need for structure, more so in organizations that require formality and standard operating procedures. Thus, they give clear directives and hold organizational responsibility for the achievement of goals and objectives within stipulated time. This leadership is most suitable for organizations that have structured organizational and tasks requiring order and accurate completion in accordance with the laid down rules and regulations.

5. Coach-Style Leadership

The style of leadership in question is the type that emphasizes building the human capital of the team. This style of leadership involves leaders guiding and coaching their subordinates as well as offering constructive criticisms and other forms of support that are necessary to the subordinate’s career development. They encourage active training, education, and personal and career growth where worker’s gain, personal and career oriented goals are in sync with the company’s goals. Finally, there is a creation of a system where the individuals are gathered as a team, and everyone is responsible for everyone else, in this case, coach style leaders. This approach is specially useful to identify and “grow talent” and to be ready for future leaders within the organization.

6. Authentic Leadership

Another profile of authentic leadership in organizations is based on the notions of Authenticity, it involves sincere focus on self-awareness and incorporating ethical standards into leadership. This type of leadership involves a leader’s setting his /her behavior in accordance with identified organizational values thus, fostering confidence and esteem among the employees. Credibility demands truthful and principled communication with subordinates and other members of the organization. This way they show all their dependability and ensure work is executed in a professional manner within the company and accountability is achieved through creating a positive work culture. Authentic leadership enhances the organization’s capability to cultivate an authentic organizational culture capable of coping with various issues.

Applying leadership styles in the modern business world, several counterparts are in consideration, such as organizational culture, intended goals, and the type of industry difficulties faced. All the leadership styles that have been discussed, namely, transformational, servant, democratic, transactional, coach-style and authentic carry certain positives and are useful in various scenarios in contemporary organizations. Organizational goals are obtained solely when leaders exhibit flexibility in the management process and align themselves with situational requirements and needs of the subordinates. Thus, proper recognition of these distinct types of leadership and their efficient usage allows companies to build a strong leadership bench and maintain competitive positions in the global economy.
